285 - Agosto (Danbury) - 2nd Opens or Houston (New Haven) - 1st Opens
There are many quality wrestlers coming back for a run at the Opens this upcoming season. For this analysis, I tried to stay with returning Open medalists, thus many other good wrestlers could contend for the Open title (i.e., many class champions did not place in the Opens).
Many weights look stacked, especially in the lower weights (e.g., 126). Also many weights have returning Open finalists/champions/NE place-winners (8 returning Open finalists and 4 returning NE champions - Jack, Sung, Adams, LiCastri). However, the 145 weight class looks wide open as all place-winners at 138 were seniors last season (and all class champions were also seniors last year).
Again, many assumptions made here as many wrestlers could go a different weight or could have moved out of state/go to private school (e.g., Mastrianni to Greens Farm Academy). Lastly, the 132/138 classes could change if Jack decides to go 132.
Cayleb Leclerc is going 145 again this year. He barely took second at 145 last year and was light for the weight class. This year will be his senior year !
138 - Bradley (Morgan) - 1st Ss @ 132 or Matthews (Gilbert) 2nd Ss/5th Opens @ 132
145 - Light (Stonington) - 2nd Ss @ 138
152 - Rodriguez Rivera - 1st Ss @ 145
160 - Matthews (Gilbert) - 1st Ss @ 152
170 - ?
182 - ?
195 - Cronin (Nonnewaug) - 1st Ss/2nd Opens @ 182
220 - Lytle (Northwestern) - 2nd Ss/5th Opens
285 - ?
The Ss have a bunch of returning finalists from the 2018-19 season - 11 from my count. The 138 weight-class could be the barn-burner in this class with a possible rematch of Bradley & Matthews. Again, many assumptions here with only moving up one weight class from last year's results (i.e., the final weight classes should be very different once the season starts AND after the 2-pound allowance).
72 days/10 weeks till opening day of practice...
Any thoughts on the possible 19-20 Opens contenders at each weight?
The Ms have 9 returning finalists, similar to that of the Ls, with 126 being the most interesting based on rolling up the weights one weight class. H. Adam and C. LiCastri are the real cream of the crop in this class being the returning NE champions (and only Ms wrestlers that did anything at the 2019 NE tournament in terms of placing).
87 days till first practice/season opening...but who is counting?
160 – Maleryn (RHAM) 3rd L @ 152 or Sirois (Simsbury) – 4th L @ 152
170 – Bergin (Simbury) – 1st L @ 160
182 – ?
195 – ?
220 – Dubon (Middletown) – 3rd L @ 220
285 – Mackenzie (New London) – 3rd L @ 285 or Facey (BC) – 4th L @ 285
Again rolled up each weight class up by one, which is making very strong assumptions as many go up more than one in actuality. The Ls seem pretty clear in many weights and very open in others, especially in the upper weights. In all, the Ls are very strong in many of the lower weights with a good amount of returning L champions or finalists (8 by my count). It would be very interesting if some of the excellent wrestlers in the lower/middle weights went up by more than one class, thus producing some excellent matchups.
Again, the question is still at hand with some of the schools to whether they stay, enter, or exit from the Ls. But again, a very early late summer analysis...
Late summer predictions for LL (over three months out till season starts...or about 100 days):
Class LL
106 – ?
113 – Longo (Trumbull) - 1st LL/AA @ Fargo GR or O’Dell (Danbury) - 5th NE @ 106
120 – Currier (Hall) - 3rd Opens & NE @ 113
126 – Johnson (Danbury) - 6th NE @ 120
132 – Ebert (Warde) - 3rd Opens & NE @ 126
138 – Jack (Danbury) - no need to explain this one, only that he is expected to go 138 - see http://www.hatterswrestling.com within '19-'20 Season Info
285 – Agosto (Danbury) - 2nd LL & Opens @ 285, Weiner (Shelton) - 5th Opens @ 285, or Houston (New Haven) - 1st Opens @ 285
Mainly rolled up the various weights from the 18-19 results within LL and Opens, except 138 (Jack - see link above) and for the 220/285, which are more stable. Some weight classes included "?" as I did not see many juniors or below that had a record/place of distinction in the prior weight class in 18-19. Many wrestlers could increase more than one weight class...at this point, just a guess.
The other variable in this if there are any class changes (i.e., a school moving up/down to a different classification...LL to L, and vice versa). For example, does Simsbury and Xavier stay in the Ls or do they move up to LLs? Later in the fall, the updated classifications will be released via http://ciacsports.com/site/?page_id=976.
Longo AA'd at 101lbs so pretty confident he will be at 106 this year. I see Jack at 132 and Kovacs back at 138 for Danbury.
That's a great question... I'm not aware of any myself but maybe others have some ideas?
OMG Sethy !! Tu rox ! tiens moi au courant quand même

Hamilton from BC is the guy here at 106. He should be able to make a push into the opens as well.

Would not be shocked to see Adams at 170. Looked pretty solid at 170 preseason.
