And who isn't this year (half the state open #1's are from class L). The Colter Abely Classic this weekend will feature up to 31 wrestlers ranked in the top 6 in class L. Class L teams expected to attend are Simsbury, Bristol Eastern, Xavier, Fitch, Pomperaug and Cheshire. 106 should be a gauntlet with 4 of the top 6 in attendance, including #1 Rapuano (Xavier) vs. #2 Thompson (Eastern). Other thick brackets include 132# (#2, 3 & 4); 145# (2, 3 & 5); 160# (2, 3 & 5). Almost every bracket has at least two ranked wrestlers. Should be fun.
So get yourself down to Mercy HS in Middletown and enjoy some great wrestling this weekend (please verify time and location as I am not certain on either).
Thats what I heard too.
After Colter Abely, seems like we need some team adjustments in the rankings!
Some great wrestling today at the colter tourney. 106 was a dog fight with 4 of the top kids in the state . Rapuano looked very solid and in my opinion locked up the 1 seed at opens today. He defeated Charon I think 12-4 in the finals and Longo 9-0 in the semis to take 1st. Charon took second after defeating Thompson in the semis (not positive on the score but it was a lot to a little if not a pin), then Longo and Thompson wrestled for 3&4 with Longo Pinning Thompson to take 3rd. 113 was Longo and Charon in the finals with Longo winning 5-1 I believe. 120 was another awesome match with Ty Finn and Jack Ryan. Such a fun match to watch both of these boys are so strong and technical I’m pretty sure the score was 3-0 but don’t quote me on it. 126 I missed I’m sure someone can fill in. 132 was a very close match between simsbury and a Rhode Island team ending i think 2-1 but it was a controversial 2 at the buzzer for Simsbury (i persona think they got hosed on the call but what do I know). 138 was another grueling match between Matt Ryan and Nick Fine from Rhode Island with Matt winning 3-2. Lunt won at 145 , After that I missed a few I got caught up but Susa won at 170, Palmieri won at 182 and that’s about all I can help out with at the moment. What a well run tournament with some great competition.
Eastern, Xavier, Warde, Trumbull and Simsbury top 5 at the Colter Abley tourney.
Mairano also beat kosak 10-3 in the semis
That tournament fell apart....not sure how many kids they sent to Middletown, but I have watched a few of there matches on FB LIVE feed from a friend
