Here is my Top 10 for 2020-2021 (Returning wrestlers)...for tournaments, not duals:
1) Danbury (5 Open placers/2 LL placers) - returns and reloads with some good talent coming in
2) Warde (4 Open placers/2 LL placers/1 Blood Round @ LL)
3) Simsbury (3 Open placers/2 L placers & Sirios return from injury/2 BR @ L)
4) Haddam/Killingworth (2 Open placers/6 S placers) - very young team that returns a bunch
5) Bristol Eastern (2 Open placers/3 L placers)
6) Killingly (2 Open placers/2 S placer/1 S BR @ S)
7) New Milford (2 Open placers/1 L placer)
8) Joel Barlow (2 Open placers/1 M placer)
9) Xavier (1 Open placer/3 L placers) - lost a ton of high end wrestlers, but does Cunningham reload?
10) Suffield/WL (1 Open placer/4 M placers)
Other teams to consider: Bristol Central (1 Open placer/3 L placers/1 BR @ L), Foran (4 M placers/2 BR @ M), Ridgefield (4 LL placers), Southington (3 LL placers/2 BR @ LL), Ledyard (1 Open placer/2 S placers/2 BR @ S), Staples (1 LL placer/4 BR @ LL), Trumbull (1 Open placer/1 LL placer/3 BR @ LL)
However, off-seasons make the difference in this sport. Which teams will put in the work in the weight room and on the mat that translates into results next winter? How does this COVID-19 impact the work wrestlers could put in to prepare for the 20-21 season? Only time will tell.
I agree with it, and Danbury is the clear favorite at this time with 5 open pacers coming back along with 3 others who scored points. I think New Milford can climb into the top 5.
