    Best Open finals match?

    in General Discussion

Hard to pick a favorite - lots of exciting matches this year. Personally I was most excited for 138 and I think it delivered. 106 was also fun to watch. What‘s everyone’s thoughts?

138 was definitely a fun match to watch! Sean and Justin are both spectacular, fun wrestlers that put on a great show. So happy for Sam White! Such a good kid who deserves everything he has accomplished. 106 was closer than I thought it would be and Charon really closed the gap a lot since their last match. I felt like at any point either one of them could have opened it up. 145 was good to start also , much closer than I thought it would be.195,225, and even heavy we’re all exciting as well. Some great wrestling this year but I would have to say the 138 was my favorite match to watch. A lot of great consi finals matches also! Eibert looked great, so did Shaugnessy.

Did Johnson deserve pts on either of the close takedowns late?

From where I was sitting it did not look like there was any change of possession. Close? Yes but Justin did a great job maintaining his hip position to keep control. it was a exciting match to watch, and definitely made Me give Sean a lot more respect. I think both of these boys can do well next weekend. One thing I didn’t like about the match was the crowd who felt the need to boo at the end as Justin was getting his hand raised. Even if you were booing at the refs which again made their fair share of questionable calls, it was wrong and should never have been done to a young man who just did his best to win a match, and a state title.

I thought you could make a better case for the first one than the second one. Either way it went, someone was going to be upset. Great effort and execution by both guys. And I agree with you about the crowd. I hope it didn’t take away from Justin’s moment.

It sure looked like it did! He pretty much looked at the crown and shrugged his shoulders while getting booed ! I even think I saw him ask why? To the crowd. I really felt bad for him , but he shook it off and handled it very well. Justin is a very classy young man and was raised with great morals. That can’t be easy to do at 16 years old! I commend him for the way he handled the situation.

Loudest the crowd was is when Nooden won. That was pretty exciting.
