Xavier's annual tournament this weekend should be full of action: 6 of the top 10 teams attending (Simsbury, Warde, Bristol Eastern, Xavier, Killingly, Trumbull). Some great matchups in 106 (Thompson, Brault, Longo(?), 120 (Rapuano, Currier), 145 (Pera, Ebert, and Lunt). Any others I missed?
Wow! That is the place to be if you are a HS wrestling fan.
I would not be shocked if Rapuano goes 113. As a fan I want to see the matchup at 120
AT 285:
St. Peter #1 BE v. Martin #2 Sims at Class L for heavy.
I think Martin will win.
Let’s just hope the snow holds off. Would be a shame if this gets canceled.
Heard it might be moved to Sunday. Will determine that Friday night.
Nice!

Hope I didnt miss anyone. Probably am off on a weight class or three.
Is this going to be ran the traditioanl bracket style this year or pool play like years past? tough to get a feel for real team score in pool play.
I didn't see that Killingly was going to be there. Another good up and coming wrestler Andy Grabinsky@113 is another kid to watch out for, as well as george Bomann @145. I bet Ryan Finn goes 106 and Cael goes 113 but I have no concrete evidence for this.
I double checked and saw that Killingly will be there. This is the place to be on Saturday for sure.

Don't forget to put in the Soda brothers in at the 106/113 weights. Those lower weights are going to be tough this weekend @ Xavier.
@stallwarning I didn’t know Cam and Zack were going to be there . That’s going to be awesome! Potential New England finals match ups at 106&113.
Shaping up to be some good wrestling. Scalma wrestled at 120 at the Sam Cali tourney in NJ recently.
Burlington had a kid, Perna, that finished 5th at the Bossi tournament at 120 as well as the Soda boys.
What's the prediction for the top five team results for this tournament?
BH,Simsbury,Warde,Xavier,Burlington with a chance of Bristol Eastern or Trumbull pushing in there if things go well.
Warde, Simsbury Xavier, BH, BE
I'd think you'd have to at least consider Barlow in the mix for top 5 after finishing 14th at Eastern States. Not sure how it's scored exactly, but you're going to need a number of scoring wrestlers from competitive brackets.
If it’s run the same way as it was in past years they do a 4 pool of 4 format at each bracket to start. Then the 4 #1s will cross bracket against another #1 then the winners of those two matches wrestle for 1st and 2nd and the two losers wrestle for 3/4 so depending on the brackets it could easily make some kids have a easier or tougher road. these were the 4 #1s in their initial Pools.
And this is how they score
That's awesome dude....best string so far this year ;)
Ya have to respect the level of competition Xavier seeks over the year. The way I understand it the pools are essentially QF feed ins. Every year I've looked at it there are multiple 1's in each of the pools designed to funnel to a semi final bracket essentially.
Xavier has built a great schedule over the years... but I’m not a fan of this scoring/pool format. it doesn’t reflect your typical scoring metrics so it will be hard to access team results. On the championsip side i get it, but wrestle backs dont pan out true.
As far as Barlow, IMO they will have 3 significant scorers, at 106,113 and 195. Outside of those weights they are not to solid. Barlow is the type of team who can place higher at the Open & NE than they will in a class tournament.
@Run.the.Pipes Like most tournaments, the Xavier tournament will be won in the consi-brackets. All of the top teams (Simsbury, Warde, Xavier, BE, etc.) have their top wrestlers, who will make the finals (you could see each of the top teams have 3-4 finalists). The question will be what support will these top wrestlers in the consi-rounds get to put the team over the top. The lower weights at this tournament took extremely tough, thus some wrestlers who have placed in prior tournaments may not place in this one. Thus, I would look to which team gets the most out of the upper weights to see who wins.
@Run.the.Pipes I beg to differ about Barlow. They have a significant scorer at 152 in Alex Klein- Wassink and 170 with McNeary.
