Who are our wrestlers with the best shot to win it? Can Danbury get another NE title with their 7? Timberlane is also brining 7 and so is Springfield central. I think those 3 teams battle for the tittle .

i think the following CT wrestler have what it takes to win a championship

Rapuano

Jack

Mastroianni

S. Johnson

Sung

Licasti

No faith lol I see how it is! Rapuano is going to have a tough bracket. Depending on his draw he will have to go through either Fry or Knox to win and those are both tough kids. Not saying he can’t he will just have to be on his game. Now anyone remember a 2 seed out of ct winning not once but twice? I’ll leave the name a blank and you can fill in the gaps. Might start with a C and end with a O but that’s all I’ll give. Anything can happen! Justin and Sean both have a good shot at winning IMO. Tyler could also pull it off. RJ no brainer enough said the kid is just the only kid I’ve ever seen toy with his opponent even in the finals, absolutely incredible! Licastri was dominating as well and should do well. A few others may do well also we just need to see how the draw is. Best of luck to all the boys they all deserve it!

Your right, every year there is a CT2 or CT3 who makes a run and wins the whole thing. Who’s it going to be this year?

Feb 24

@Run.the.Pipes I think Longo at 113 or Johnson at 138 are the guys most likely to win NEs after not winning opens

Feb 24

@Wrestler371 I think that's a good call.....Travis would have to wrestle his best match to have a chance against Hunter Adrian though....was the most impressive wrestler I've watched all year. (was never at one of Ryan Jack's tourneys).

I'd have to put Hunter Adams on the short list right now. He was pretty dominant through both class and open tourneys. What about Angers at 160? Gjinaj at 195?

Run.the.Pipes
Feb 24

gjnia for sure. I would have had him on my original list but i forgot to Add him. Angers is legit but I think the Springfield central 160 Is the clear favorite

Anyone have a chance to break down these brackets yet? I have glanced at them all as of now. I have not done a deep dive into them yet, but i intend to do so and will share my thoughts.

two HUGE standouts to me are that Mcgonagle and Darling are on the same side of the bracket and Fields is on the other. Potential for Fields to reach finals, and for Danbury to possibly put two into the finals. That would be big for their team title hopes.

the other standout also has big implications for Danbury, at 195 Gjinaj and the MAU kid are on the top side of the bracket, they the top 2 in the bracket in my opinion. Maybe Ozbey can sneak his way into the semis on the other side and get Danbury another placer. With a few wins from the supporting cast Danbury could be in the mix to win the title... but i still consider Springfield Central to be the favorite. i think they could potentially put 3-4 into the finals.

I don’t believe Darling has a chance against mcgonagal. Fields looks to have the way easier side of the bracket. Should be fields vs mcgonagal finals with mcgonagal an easy win.

@Blast double I wouldn’t count Parrot out. Mcgonagal might have a tough time with Chase’s style and finese. Just my two cents!

@sweep the leg! I have lots of respect for Parrot and expect him on the podium but I can't see him or anyone else beating Mcgonagal or even being close. Darling maybe but nobody else. Obviously rooting for Parrot to pull the upset but don't see it. Would like to see Jack v. Mcgonagal I'm not sure who wins that one obviously not happening but would be fun.

Lemme guess....Danbury wrestler loses, goes for a shove? Shocking.

@mophie actually the complete opposite. Face mash from the winning wrestler at the end of a bout just to rub it in a little bit.

@Run.the.Pipes yeah Kyle can’t be given credit for starting that one.

You guys think the run CT has been on in New Englands is starting to wane? Or do you think it will keep going for a few more years? We're not really a prototypical wrestling state. What's the actual timeline on when it became popular for CT wrestlers travelling all over?

Run.the.Pipes
Feb 26

I think CT will continue to see the positive results in NE due to the fact that non of the NE states are prototypical wrestling states. When it comes down to it, it will always be CT vs. MA as far as overall results are concerned.

As far as the timeline, i look at in two waves. Danbury started the trend in the early 90's with their youth program and had a High school coach who identified the need to get out of state and seek better competition. with this mind set, Danbury produced the best youth and high school wrestler in the sate for almost 3 decades now. i do think many programs have caught on to this philosophy and are catching up quickly, they were just 20 years behind the eight ball.

The second wave is now the Club scene in the wrestling world. More kids are wrestling out of season and seeking higher level of competitions via their local clubs. They have access to more experienced coaches, and are cross training with high level athletes from other towns and states.

So I was looking at the brackets and one looked crazy. 120‘s Draw isn’t easy no matter where you look. White is set to have Rossetti in the round of 16 or Sutton(tough match), whoever gets through that will have Johnson in the quarters and then the dreaded semis match with Fallon. Finn will have Frost in the round of 16 (should win) then Verge in the quarters (ooooof). Then if he happens to get through Verge he has Leete in the semis. Damn that’s a STACKED bracket.

What do we think of the chances of winning at 113. I see cyr has a good path Longo too. CMuriel from hall has last years New England champ Hunter Adrian in the round of 16 I think that could be a good match.

Run.the.Pipes
Feb 27

I think CT has a shot at placing two at 113. I do like Longo's draw and can see him pushing into the semis where he will see Adrian. He has a 7-0 loss to Adrian from earlier this season that i did not witness, but I'm hoping Longo can close the gap and hopefully revenge that loss. Outside of Cyr and Longo, i'd be surprised if we see any other CT on the podium.

mophie
Feb 27

@Run.the.Pipes I would not be surprised to see Currier be in the mix even though he gets Hunter Adrian in the second round. He's right there with Cyr and Longo.

Run.the.Pipes
Feb 28

@mophie that's a good call on Currier, but i don't think he is getting by Adrian in the R16. I just just checked the layout of the consi brackets and he would avoid Cyr/Longo until the placement rounds if they both end up losing during the R16 or Quarters. That gives him a chance to get on the podium.

Stinks when two CT guys have to wrestle one another in the Consi and eliminate one from the tournament.... but that's the way NE's play out. In this bracket, it seems that the 3 will stay clear of one another until placement rounds...

mophie
Feb 28

From what I remember Travis was the only guy who didn't lose to Adrian by MD or worse this year. To me that gives 3 guys from CT a puncher's chance.

sweep the leg!
Feb 28

@mophie that is correct. IMO the two win the best chance to take out Adrian out of the 3 would be Travis or Drew. Adrian is a very fast paced wrestler and he will eat up Cyr‘s slow (stalling) style Unless Eli changed his approach against him I don’t see him winning that match. That being said the 3 CT boys in 113 could absolutely make it a hard path for Hunter to win it this year . It’s going to be fun to watch!

Feb 28

@sweep the leg! I agree Longo and Currier match up better with Adrian’s pace. If currier can get his offense going I think he could put up a scrap.
