Abdo,
It seems we could use a separate pegged forum post for discussing Open rankings. The results/updates should still appear in the Class X Updates discussions, but sometimes the actual Open rankings are worth discussing directly. The recent post about State Open Heavyweight Rankings is a good example of that and resulted in needed adjustments to the Open rankings for fairness to the athletes and consistency with Class Rankings (though I admit consistency with Class ranks isn't of highest concern). It will also be helpful to the rankers who have a ton of hard-to-compile information to sort through.
Great idea!
OSLER from Branford should be ranked near top at 182. Class M is supposed to move him to #1 at 182 from 2 at 220. He won several tourneys in 220 bracket but weighing much less. He is 182 and should be near top of open rankings. He is listed 6th at 220 now.
Why has this not been updated? Do you think OSLER should not be ranked at 182 in Opens? If so, that is a horrible judgment call. At least take his name of 220 Opens.
The spreadsheet probably didn’t save since I’ve updated osler into 182 twice already... I’ll take a look at it tomorrow morning
Question on 106? How is Thompson ranked 4th behind Brault & Longo, beat Brault convincingly twice last year, beat Longo twice last year and beat Lindner three times last year? Only lost was a 5-4 decision to Lindner this year at Danbury Tournamen first time at 106. Plus is DeFonce at Abbott Tech and in the M’s? and why are the rankings so off? BE had to leave Xavier Tournament due to snow right after round robin round, they were currently in 1st with 7 out of the 12 weight classes entered in the semis, could have won it?
It’s not even worth asking them to be updated at this point lol. So many weights are off. Longo and Thompson will have each other tomorrow so that will solve that one for now. Longo was 95 pounds last season, and both he, and Brault are coming off a rigorous post season which has really improved both of their abilities. Fargo where Mikey went AA , and Journeymen. Not saying they are going to win , I’m just saying last years matches have little impact as far as both of those boys. Longo and Thompson went 2-1 last year, and I’m not sure why he had Brault so many times last year but haven’t had him yet this year. Thompson is a great wrestler , and tomorrow should be a great match. As far as Defonce should be M , I mentioned this the other day but it never got changed. Sucks BE had to leave early last weekend, I was looking forward to seeing the true 106 semi, and final.
Well Freshman Joey Iamunno just pinned Drew Currier with 4 seconds left . Fun match to watch!
152 open ranks Mazur needs removal if he isnt active. Kyle Matthews should be #2 on ranking with removal of Mazur hes already beaten Maleryn (RHAM) and Justin Marshal although good should be 3rd I just dont see him above Matthews.
Mazur is back and has wrestled 170, weight has been adjusted for him I’ll have to update the rest!
Justin Marshall wrestles for the Univ of Southern Maine.
Still needing correction Devin Matthews (Gilbert) is at 132 not 138 as such 3rd place at 132 would be a good fit at this time.
Darius Mangiafico (Southington) majored Brayden Obrien(Bacon Acad) at the CT Challenge yesterday.
He’s having a great season, definitely should be somewhere on the LL rankings
Why are 113 rankings blank for 3-6? How about Arnold,Blaha,Coleman? I mean they wrestle just like everyone else , and deserve to be recognized. I understand it‘s probably the lightest class , and the opens final match without some crazy underdog win is pretty predictable, they shouldn’t be left blank.
Carr for Southington beat Lozada in the rematch and looks to be back to form at the CT Challenge with an easy gold. Shaking off the injury nicely imo
113- Doran (Ledyard) Pinned Reid (Harding), should be at 3-4
138- Nichols and Mairano Should be switched, Mairano Has never beaten Nichols
They should wrestle this weekend at the NF duals. Hopefully they will actually face each other.
Nichols won pretty handily so definitely should be ahead of Mairano
So Barry Reilly is now 2nd ranked at opens? I know he pinned Tischio and I do not know the details of that match, but Steven Vournazos beat Barry after that win so should he be 2nd?
Barry has lost to Bugatti, Ganino, Strand, Sanchez, Monaco, Cardozo, Martone, and Barnes. That's just what I found on Flo so it could be more than that.
182 Not sure what to do with this, but Brendan Gilchrist of Norwalk has victories over Lozada (Dec), Morrell (fall), and Jones of Danbury (MD). What makes it less clear is he has a decision loss to Summers of Warde. Probably worth a ranking or at least an honorable mention. (?)
I see dec 18th Fairfield Ludlowe shut out Norwalk But no results listed on flo , ...........shocker!!! So wondering if Brendan wrestled and lost , or didn’t wrestle.
@sweep the leg! Brendan was undefeated until he lost by dec to Summers of Fairfield Warde. I show that dual result on 12/18 as 54-30 for Ludlowe--not a shutout as ctwrestling.com says. Brendan Gilchrist wrestled that day at 220 and won by fall in 0:25 over Torro. See: https://arena.flowrestling.org/event/26eaa1b2-c3f5-ab2c-4865-4fc5d54a3a2f
@Innocent Bystander funny ct wrestling shows a 54-0 Ludlowe win on 12/18. Dont know how he could have won with that score.
Rumor has it that Najee Powell-Keyton from NL is no longer wrestling. hard to confirm with match results since NL never post results.
How is james rondini 1 at 132 he beat no one this year
At the Open 132 ranks I fail to see how Coniglio rates a 3 spot just returning. Gotta beat somebody first in my opinion. Lets compare shall we Devin Matthews was in 3rd but now 4th he is undefeated 30-0 every win by Tech or Pin he's won the Pawling Invitational in NY, the Chris Hernandez Memorial Wrestling Tournament in Yonkers NY, the MT. Anthony Tournament in VT and most recently the Portland Tournament in CT. So I fail to see a comparison at this time.
Probably right there....they were both NE qualifiers last year, finishing 5th in their respective weight classes.
Following up on post from last week:
182 Gilchrist of Norwalk lost by dec on 1/4 to Summers of Warde. Last week, Gilchrist pinned Summers at a dual at Warde. Gilchrist now has wins over Morrell (New Milford), Lozado (Newington), Jones (Danbury), and Summers (Warde) and should probably be ranked in Open at 182.
Vecchio beat Guilfoyle at 220 in Simsbury last week
I tihnk Pina from Danbury should at a minimum be a HM at 120. I tend to lean in favor of a senior from Danbury with no CT losses this year over a freshman from New Fairfield and Killingly. Pina has key wins in beating Liam Knight and Branningan who both won mutltiple matches at Opens last year. The two sitting at HM have only key losses to their names at this time. seems like a easy change to me.
I think you're dead on with that assessment. He's earned it. Both of the freshmen are getting consideration off wins over Prather from Barlow who lost blood round last year in Opens. Not sure how to evaluate those with Prather being out with mono as I hear it.
