1. Simsbury (but much closer than I previously thought)
2. Bristol Eastern
3. Xavier
4. Bristol Central
5. New Milford
I am not ranking Carter Sirois, Simsbury @160, even though he is currently seeded 6th on the Class L sheet. I am assuming that they are hoping for a recovery and he can wrestle. I previously had Sirois at 2nd. I hope the young man can go, but shoulder injuries in wrestling are tough to recover from (I know, my boy has had them before). So I am leaving him off.
I'll do a post-mortem next week after the tournament, see how I did. Good luck to all the wrestlers who've worked hard all season to get to this point. See you all in Bristol.
160 Has some guys close to being Ranked.... Bentley from EO Smith, Horn from Pomperaug, Ganino from Hand, Rucker from Wethersfield, if you needed to slot one in.
Sirois is a tough loss for Simsbury. I'll take this as confirmed out and remove him from my rankings. Anyone know who will be @160 for Simsbury? They're deep enough, that may warrant a ranking.
Also, I noticed Tyler Coiro also forfeited out of the tournament. Is he OK? Can anyone confirm whether he will be in or out this weekend? And Also, Ryan Guilfoyle didn't wrestle @ 182 pounds? Will he be in the Class L Tourney? Araniti @195?
I will likely update Simsbury's rankings when I see the seeding sheets come out so I at least have their wrestlers right. They had a lot of different guys at the CCC tourney than I had ranked.
No idea on 160. Coiro was sick i heard tried to wrestle but was gassed so he forfeited out. I think both Guilfoyle’s sat out to nagging minor injuries so it was more for rest purposes. Araniti I heard is out for season but I have no confirmation. Will know tomorrow when seeds come out.
120 Pounds: With Mason Lishness beating Jacob Aldi in last nights duals, I plan to update the 120 pound rankings. New rankings (when I get a chance to update online, can't do it from work).
1. Iamunno, Joe North Haven
2. Lishness, Mason Bristol Eastern
3. Aldi, Jacob Bristol Central
4. Jutcawitz, David Pomperaug
5. Mannino, Max Wilton
6. Guglietta, Jason Farmington
A few other minor changes from the mid-week duals, but nothing major. I commend Lishness and Aldi putting it on the line in the last dual of the season. Lots of kids ducking and preserving records at this stage of the season.
I will be updating the Class L rankings late this evening. Biggest change is the triumphant return of Tyler Sung from New Canaan. Looks like he's going 152. I have slotted him at #1 based on his history and pre-season rankings. Welcome back Tyler and good luck in the post-season tournaments.
Light on action this weekend. The Bobcat classic had a few minor upsets and Simsbury dueled Bristol Eastern. A few minor upsets, but nothing earth shaking there. The Farmington duals featured four class L teams, but I was only able to find results on Flo for Maloney vs Pomperaug. If anyone has the full results, especially the Middletown duel results, I would love to see them.
I will be updating Class L rankings from the results over the weekend. I did see Peter Coniglio back, so I have inserted him in the rankings at #2 at 132. When Nichols beat Bourjelli at the Bristol Eastern Tourney last weekend, it threw the 138 pound bracket into chaos. See how I have it ranked and feel free to disagree. I added Roark Ryan (220 pounder from East Lyme who placed 4th last year in M's). My apologies to the young man, I didn't check his credentials from last year as he switched class and Norwich changed coop teams so I didn't notice he was a class placer in the prior year.
Lots of other changes, including some weight changes. Let me know what I missed.
138 will be an exciting bracket at the L tourney this year... the top three are all capable of pulling off the win as they have all battled each other very closely throughout the season. Mairano and Nichols haven't matched up this year, but Mairano and Bourjelli were tied in a 7-7 battle until the last 15 seconds of the match at the Ridgefield challenge and won the most outstanding finals match award. Nichols and Bourjelli have each won a close match against each other. All super talented kids, looking forward to watch the action in post season.
Bourjelli lost a close match to Tommy Nichols this weekend. This is a tough weight class in L's this year. Peter Coniglio wrestled at 132 and should be factored in now that he's back on the mat.
@mophie I agree with this. Drew went into that match not taking Joey seriously, and by the time he did it was too late. Drew won’t come out so tentative next time , and I give drew the edge also.
@Innocent Bystander Hey IB.....pretty much parrotting what StL said. I didn't watch the match, but have watched both wrestle a lot of matches. I think the spread between them is small, and wasn't shocked at the result. That being said, I don't think they really crossed paths in youth, and Drew is a seasoned junior who had a great run through Opens and New Englands last year. I think that experience will end up being what separates them.

@mophie Thanks for the reasonable reply. It will be fun watching it play out.
I will be updating the rankings later tonight. Lots of updates!!
A couple of very talented freshman which people have been touting all season had some big wins. Khalil Bourjelli of New Milford @138 beat John Mairano of Simsbury at the Ridgefield Challenge. This will obviously move the freshman up to #1 at this weight. Joe Iamunno from North Haven beat Mason Lishness of Bristol Eastern at the CT Challenge to move up to 2nd at 120 pounds.
Lots of other movements, but these are probably the two biggest. Look for the update late tonight (lots to work through still).
@oscar1bad I definitely don’t disagree on your logic. What makes it so arguable is when a undergod win throws a wrench into the mix. Wrestling is a funny sport where styles don’t always play true to if A beats B and B beats C then that means A beats C. I’ve seen time and time again where A beats B and B beats C but C beats A over and over again. It’s weird and doesn’t happen in many other sports the way it happens in wrestling. Sometimes styles don’t match up well so it makes us hard to put a ranking system in place not playing to head to head wins/loses.

@sweep the leg! I agree that the transitive property A>B & B>C therefore A>C doesn't hold. Styles matter a lot. However, when you're doing rankings, if that's all you have it's what you have to use. I don't follow the littles, but my understanding is that Iamunno has wins over guys who beat Aldi and Aldi has no wins over guys who have beaten Iamunno. If we are putting money on it, which side do you take? I've got Iamunno, do you want the other side?
It's moot since Aldi is from Bristol, so he gets the benefit of the doubt (in L rankings). :-)
I saw on Flo at the Ridgefield Challenge that it looks like someone put A. Coscia's name in as "A. Cosh" which doesn't link to anything in Flo. Note that it should be Coscia and update accordingly.
This weekend saw several head-to-head results.
Records since last ranking review
1. St. Peter 3-0 good Ws vs. Fuerstenberg (Platt M #2), Ryan (Trumbull LL #5)
2. Martin 3-2, beat Coscia #5 (Amity)
3. Facey 2-2, lost to Coscia #5
4. Highley 2-2, lost to Clay (New Canaan) #6
5. Coscia 3-2, lost to Martin #2 but beat Facey #3
6. Clay 3-1, beat Highley #4
Records on the season from Flo, ctwrestling.com, and trackwrestling.com. I suspect Facey has a couple of FOR dual wins not online. Note that "Rec." below is actual matches. FOR wins are broken out. E.g. Highley's record in matches is 9-8, but for seeding in Class L would be 16-8.
Wrestler Rec.wins by FORKey wins (L Only)
St. Peter: 17-3 1 Clay, Martin (both OT), Coscia (F)
Martin: 14-6 1 Coscia (F)
Clay: 15-3 2 Highley
Proposed Ranking:
1. St. Peter (recovered well from losses to Danbury-JV, McIver)
2. Martin (only L loss is to St. Peter in OT)
3. Clay (only L loss is to St. Peter in OT, also to #3 Open, #4 Open)
4. Highley (lost to Clay, better than his record)
5. Coscia (losses to Martin and St. Peter by fall)
6. Facey (lost to Coscia --needs to beat a good L to move up
285 is very close between all 6 guys. Lots of close matches. Could go any way at states. I was wondering, why would you move Clay over Coscia and Facey. I agree with top two, but then I think I'm going to go 3. Coscia (prev 5), 4. Facey (prev 3), 5. Clay (prev 6), 6. Highley (prev 4). I fully admit, it can go any way, but I don't see why you drop Facey from 3rd to 6th with a 1 point loss to a guy 1 place below him. Highley lost to the lower seeded wrestler and will drop more because of it. Facey also placed 4th last year at states, so that affords him some respect when evaluating two wrestlers who haven't yet wrestled this year (Clay/Facey). As I said, in reality it is really too close to call this year at 285. Need more results.
sanctuss7, thank you. I agree you did a great job. I agree with Scott, Xavier 2nd.
My final class L rankings have been uploaded.
My team place prediction:
1. Simsbury (but much closer than I previously thought)
2. Bristol Eastern
3. Xavier
4. Bristol Central
5. New Milford

Just heard Sirois from Simsbury is out for season with a shoulder injury
120 Pounds: With Mason Lishness beating Jacob Aldi in last nights duals, I plan to update the 120 pound rankings. New rankings (when I get a chance to update online, can't do it from work).
1. Iamunno, Joe North Haven
2. Lishness, Mason Bristol Eastern
3. Aldi, Jacob Bristol Central
4. Jutcawitz, David Pomperaug
5. Mannino, Max Wilton
6. Guglietta, Jason Farmington

Where was Pomperaug Grant Horn last night? Did not wrestle Balow's Alex Wassink? That would have been a good match to watch.

Michael minevich 138 from east lyme just beat the 132 from east Hartford who is ranked 5th
Looks like Sung is back at 152. Saw him on scroes from last night.

Malick from BC Beat Chieppo at 145 twice this weekend
Grous from EO Smith was at 170 not 182, and beat Mayer
Coniglio is back at 132
120 Both Loria from Xavier or Carrion from Maloney have both had good seasons and could be ranked there.
Manganiello looks like he will be 126.
Nichols beat Bourjelli
Bourjelli lost a close match to Tommy Nichols this weekend. This is a tough weight class in L's this year. Peter Coniglio wrestled at 132 and should be factored in now that he's back on the mat.
It will be fun to watch..
Iamunno beat Lishness this weekend 5-0 .. He should be ranked #1in my opinion @ 120
I will be updating the rankings later tonight. Lots of updates!!
