I agree P4P should not be touched. Class ranks need to reflect current wrestlers that are active. No one is advocating for removing people every week for a injury lol what I think we are saying if you go a period of time say 3 to 4 weeks with no activity then a removal or a drop in ranking is merited. As far as Sung or Adams no one is trying to take anything away from those to phenomenal wrestlers but with no activity yet I believe once again Class should reflect what is happening currently and is relevant to this moment in time.
So with that P4P and I think Open should reflect our best wrestlers. Should the time come when they are verified to be out for the entire season then removal from Open ranks seems fitting while leaving P4P as is.

I agree with you.
I know no one is suggesting week-to-week removals. I was highlighting that it seems we put way too much focus on a couple of HS CIAC tournaments that happen on specific dates. It seems some have the view that if a wrestler isn't available on those dates, they should be dropped from the rankings. Taken to the extreme, the rankings devolve to a barely relevant tournament ranking. I just think that is nearsighted.
My comment was not meant to address anything you wrote about pound for pound. I was thinking about the HS season.

That's fair. I think we hit the "Publish" button the same time. :-)

I also think the "open" rankings ought to be our "best of the best" at each weight class independent of Class or CIAC/NEPSAC status, not just focused on a single tournament or point in time. It's a ridiculously tough task to (fairly) determine who will be healthy each weekend. Every wrestler would be one staph/ring worm infection away from being dropped from the rankings. I wouldn't envy the moderators their job of trying to sort all that out--especially when you ad in the incentives of each poster advocating for their wrestlers. Of course, this isn't my web site, so I defer to the guys actually running/funding/maintaining it and only wish to express my gratitude for the hard work they do to support CT Wrestling.
Sung is out with a knee injury and it appears Adam's is out due to being academically ineligible. Until when and if if they return they should be removed from rankings till such time.
@Innocent Bystander If a wrestler is out for the season, I am not sure I agree with leaving him/her in the rankings. If there is a chance they may return for states, then it makes sense to leave them on the list. If anyone from out of state wants to know who the best wrestlers are from Connecticut for upcoming matches, it does not help them to see a wrestler's name who is out for the season. If one wants to know the best wrestlers the state produces, they will not look on this site but will look at the results from the national/regional tournaments. Many people use this site to track the performance of active wrestlers. Again, if a wrestler has a chance of returning during the season, by all means, keep them on the list. Also, the best by accomplishment are readily accessible in the CT HS Wrestling Record Book.

@scott If they are done and are not competing "this season" (whatever that means--do you mean HS season? If so, that should be irrelevant for P4P) then I guess it is fair to drop them from the Class rankings. No one has verified that either of these kids is "out for the season" we have an unverified report that one is academically ineligible and a verified report that a kid is injured with an unverified rumor that the injury ends his HS season.
Kids that are academically ineligible can become eligible by working hard in school or picking up credits from a local CC. Fall Semester is about to end, maybe they can pull it out of the fire. Can someone verify that Adams is out with no chance to recover eligibility?
I've seen nothing that says Sung is out for the season and when I spoke to Tyler in late November, he was expecting to return. Plans change and sometimes kids are more optimistic about a return (or foolish about returning before they're ready) than is warranted, so maybe Sung really is out--I just haven't heard it from anyone who would actually know.
I also heard that Ryan Jack was out for the season, but that rumor was false--he just won the Danbury holiday tournament in his usual convincing manner.

@scott I've thought a little more about your response and I think we just have different views/objectives for the purpose of this website. We've seen the dads line up to argue someone should lose their ranking for inactivity every single year on this and other sites. Two years ago, when Jakob Camacho was injured, people wanted him out of the rankings (silly), last year it was Justin Mastroianni (who came back and won Class L, State Opens, and took second at NE all after a national championship). If the goal of this web site is to be a "dad forum" then fine--toss 'em all and put your kid at the top (but the site will never thrive). If the goal is to promote CT Wrestling, then I think tossing our best for risking the most is a bad policy. If we continue to have a HS in-season-only focus, it will be tough to advance CT Wrestling.
I think I would also reverse what you said about this site. People wanting to research upcoming matches would go to Flo. People wanting to see who we think our best is will come here. We give them the names, Flo gives them the analytics/video national/regional results.
I agree with you that the burden of proof of who is "out for the (HS) season" rests on those who want that wrestler removed from the rankings.
Sung tore something in his knee hope he gets better but i would cast some doubt on returning this year. Hopefully he rests up and heads off to college no need to risk injury coming back to early when his ride to Lehigh is on the line.
I have noticed two wrestlers on the P4P with no activity so far this early season: a) Tyler Sung, & b) Hunter Adams. Any status update on these two (or have I missed something)?
Lots of corrections needed! Kids who cut down hard for a certain weight last year aren’t going to be at the same weight this year. So many kids at wrong weights Across the board!
Agree that a ton of these kids will be moving around in weight class and things won't settle until after the 2 pound allowance. However, the pre-season ranking for 106 is a bit off for Class S. Being from the ECC part of CT I know that Doran finished 4th in M's and also beat Chapman, Hines and Christie last year who currently are ranked higher.
Definitely don’t plan on making weight changes until at LEAST the first week of competition. The next update will be Wednesday. Where I will fill in all the holes and confirm all teams are in the right division. I know I had a member tell me RHAM is in M’s which needs to be fixed! I have 3 guys helping this year, so rankings should be much more accurate and updated more frequent. Thanks for your patience everyone.
Correct stall, the 18th will show 106,113,120,126,ect , then after Christmas will bring a whole other change. I know a bunch of kids who will be wrestling up a weight until the 2 pound allowance, and then come down as you’re aware. I was just stating kind of a few weights off the top of my head from knowing the kids and where they plan on going . Excited for another fun year guys! Let’s kick it off right.
I wouldn’t put too much into these initial rankings. Until the first few events come in, a better understanding of where some wrestlers end up based on changes in weight would be justified. Like Sweep the Leg! indicated, Jack Ryan is much bigger than last year, thus will not be at the same weight as last year. These initial rankings are just where the returning ranked kids remain. I would expect big changes after the 18th and the first set of weekend tournaments...
Lots of updates needed. Odell is 113, knight is 120, Rapuano 113, currier I believe is 120 minimum most likely 126, I believe Thompson is 113 but that can be confirmed soon.thats just what I saw real quick. Jack Ryan is much bigger this year so prob 132.
Generally weight class changes aren't made until results start coming out. You can say all these guys are going this weight or that, but until they start competing at those weights it doesn't matter. Besides, they rankings based on last years weights give a good jumping off point to compare where guys should be in their new weights.
Class S Nick Glynn from HK placed 6th at 145 last year as a freshman. He is now a sophomore and should be on the 145 rankings. Matt Carson is a junior at 182 in class s.

Guilford is listed as LL in the tournament team rankings. They are M

Sung is recovering from surgery and will likely be back in late January or early February. Heard he'll be wrestling for Lehigh. Congrats.
I heard Sung is injured, not sure how bad.
I heard Adams has been ruled academically ineligible this season.

Class S and M has been filled in. Ranking errors such as the one noted above will be corrected soon
