Interest in wrestling has peaked I guess. Back to the 90's. I did a little search for "new england wrestling" and across the upstate NE states there are pockets of press about the local wrestlers. Down here it's Danbury, and the odd article about Tyler Sung from New Canaan. I applaud those communities that are still supporting their high school sports teams, but they are fading away. No wonder kids get burnt out on the sport.....it's not one that thrives without the support of a community. In a single year I've seen the interest in this site fade tremendously. GametimeCT writes fluff articles about the SCC. Local papers are pooling stories so they recycle across the region. Success through conflict should be celebrated....it's been a building block for character development for kids as long as I've been around. Thoughts? ~a full fledged cynic

Finally some data to look at in retrospect. I tallied up all the top 6 finishes by both conference and class at the Opens this year. Here's what I found: First Second Third Fourth Fifth Sixth LL 6 7 4 5 8 3 L 4 3 2 4 2 4 M 3 2 1 4 2 4 S 0 2 7 1 3 1 By conference: FCIAC (14 schools) 22 place winners/20 NE Qualifiers CCC (26 schools) 29 place winners/15 NE Qualifiers SWC (12 schools) 12 place winners/9 NE Qualifiers SCC (13 schools) 12 place winners/11 NE Qualifiers ECC (13 schools) 9 place winners/8 NE qualifiers Berkshire/NCCC/Unattached 10 place winners/7 NE Qualifiers (Apologies for any incorrect numbers, it was hand tallied and I wasn't doing it twice)

Are the team rankings on the home page supposed to be for regular season dual teams, or are they supposed to be expected tournament finishes?

Whenever I look at the rankings it seems like people mix the two, and there really isn't any consensus as to what the criteria is. The things that make a good dual team should be recognized because it highlights healthy programs, with depth and consistency. It highlights coaching because it's almost certain that kids have been developed to fill holes in the lineup. Nobody really gets a full lineup developed through youth programs in Connecticut. Even Danbury fills out the top end of their lineup with kids who start as freshmen. Then you have the teams that have some hammers that score no matter the competition level. Why not have two Top Ten or Top Twenty Ranks? It could be something where you vote on each one every two weeks so we stagger it. Maybe it's even done off of actual data instead of a vote? Thoughts?

106 - Dan Charron really should be 2nd based on his career and results at Open last year. Nothing to indicate things have changed. 113 - Mike Charron popped up at 113, looks like his eligibility issues are past him. Would probably slot him and Martial Sutton in above Liam Knight. 120 - Najji Powell-Keyton is probably a little high based on results this year. 182 - LiCastri is definitely at 182

All in all I'd guess EC is embarrassed by the tourney this year. Apparently refs weren't scheduled by the state, and nobody followed up from the school to check up on the state. Refs were eventually found, but the tournament was already compromised. Wrestling started about two hours late, switched to single elimination for the first round. All went well til about 2pm when it was decided to take all winners of consi QF contest for fifth place, and champ semi losers contest for third. The resulting revamp of the brackets crashed the system and the tournament stopped for another two hours. Highlights from the wrestling: 145 - Veleas over Roberts 8-7 132 - Julian over Accousti 4-2 OT 126 - Hudson over Folino 12-6

Apparently J'mari Lowman moved to Rhode Island yesterday. Carson LiCastri moved up to 195 and defeated Joe Gjinaj. Michael Rapuano won his bracket as an underweight 113, will move to 106 after the two pound allowance. Will Ebert won his bracket at 126 pretty handily.
