You wonder how much the strict(er) lockdown in CT is affecting our wrestlers vs. less strict lockdown in other states. Some very good wrestlers i'm sure were dissappointed. I also am sure some very high quality wrestlers from CT may have elected not to go in the current environment. Continued Now, I was surprised this year at how many matches ended in falls/tech falls. Half of the finals matches (113, 120, 132, 138, 145, 152, and 170) ended in falls or tech falls. There were several finals where it was almost a given who was going to win (113, 132, 145, and 152). I mean no disrespect to the runners up in these weight classes, but the champs in these classes are on another level. It tended to take some of the drama out of the finals match, but it was neat to see such skill at work. To be able to dominate, at this level is impressive. Not sure why there was a bit of a lack of competitiveness in the finals. I don’t think I’ve seen that so prevalent before. Finally, the officials. As I said above, officiating is tough. But please be on your game. My biggest complaints are on back points. The officials over and over again were slow to get into position and to start counting back points. This is fixable, so please work on it. You don’t have to wait to walk around the back side, get on your knees and then start swiping, You can see the kid on his back, start swiping while moving into position. I know the officials want to give their best, so give it. Secondly, the out-of-bounds calls appear to be inconsistently applied from official to official. Please focus on this in the future. I am more a fan of continuation at the edge, as long as no one is in a potentially dangerous position, but at least consistently apply the rule. It’s frustrating for the wrestlers, coaches and fans when they see two awarded on the edge for one wrestler and the next match no points for a similar position. Overall though, I thought the officiating was generally good and I didn’t see any matches where I thought the refs changed the outcome. Wow, very good. Quality results by all. Class M is done by Abdo, the admin, so i move that he is disqualified from this as he clearly has an unfair advantage (just kidding, nice job Abdo!) 1. I'll be putting my Class L post-season review up this afternoon.

@sweep the leg! I agree, RJ and Iamunno, Bourjelli is deserving, but Iamunno has been so good.

My final class L rankings have been uploaded. My team place prediction: 1. Simsbury (but much closer than I previously thought) 2. Bristol Eastern 3. Xavier 4. Bristol Central 5. New Milford I am not ranking Carter Sirois, Simsbury @160, even though he is currently seeded 6th on the Class L sheet. I am assuming that they are hoping for a recovery and he can wrestle. I previously had Sirois at 2nd. I hope the young man can go, but shoulder injuries in wrestling are tough to recover from (I know, my boy has had them before). So I am leaving him off. I'll do a post-mortem next week after the tournament, see how I did. Good luck to all the wrestlers who've worked hard all season to get to this point. See you all in Bristol.

Sirois is a tough loss for Simsbury. I'll take this as confirmed out and remove him from my rankings. Anyone know who will be @160 for Simsbury? They're deep enough, that may warrant a ranking. Also, I noticed Tyler Coiro also forfeited out of the tournament. Is he OK? Can anyone confirm whether he will be in or out this weekend? And Also, Ryan Guilfoyle didn't wrestle @ 182 pounds? Will he be in the Class L Tourney? Araniti @195? I will likely update Simsbury's rankings when I see the seeding sheets come out so I at least have their wrestlers right. They had a lot of different guys at the CCC tourney than I had ranked.

@scott I am in agreement, sounds good. Great idea, glad you suggested it. Class L MOW is Tyler Sung, New Canaan. Most pins, I'll go with a dark horse here, Bristol Central (I assume you mean team and not individual wrestler).

@scott I agree, leave the HMs out. I have done HMs in the past, but have not this year. Too hard to decide how many HMs to have. Also, you would need to have the same number of HMs in each weight. Some of my weights, I am struggling to find 6 to rank. 220 is particularly thin this year in class L, I wouldn't be surprised if the class L bracket for 220 has 12 or less wrestlers in it this year.

120 Pounds: With Mason Lishness beating Jacob Aldi in last nights duals, I plan to update the 120 pound rankings. New rankings (when I get a chance to update online, can't do it from work). 1. Iamunno, Joe North Haven 2. Lishness, Mason Bristol Eastern 3. Aldi, Jacob Bristol Central 4. Jutcawitz, David Pomperaug 5. Mannino, Max Wilton 6. Guglietta, Jason Farmington A few other minor changes from the mid-week duals, but nothing major. I commend Lishness and Aldi putting it on the line in the last dual of the season. Lots of kids ducking and preserving records at this stage of the season.

Bragging rights is all I need. And oh yes, i will brag (if I win).

I will be updating the Class L rankings late this evening. Biggest change is the triumphant return of Tyler Sung from New Canaan. Looks like he's going 152. I have slotted him at #1 based on his history and pre-season rankings. Welcome back Tyler and good luck in the post-season tournaments. Light on action this weekend. The Bobcat classic had a few minor upsets and Simsbury dueled Bristol Eastern. A few minor upsets, but nothing earth shaking there. The Farmington duals featured four class L teams, but I was only able to find results on Flo for Maloney vs Pomperaug. If anyone has the full results, especially the Middletown duel results, I would love to see them.

Love it. I'm in! Feeling good about my Class L rankings. Lets say all rankings cut off at the end of day, Wednesday, February 19th. That is plenty of time to update for the conference tournaments. One suggestion. How about 3 points for picking the winner correctly, 2 points for picking a finalist correctly and a point for picking a placer correctly. So if wrestler A is ranked 3rd, but makes the finals, you get 1 point for correctly having him ranked. If you had him 2nd, you get 2 points for correctly identifying a finalist and if you had him ranked 1st, 3 points. A little weighting for getting the finalists correct. But I'm easy either way.

I will be updating Class L rankings from the results over the weekend. I did see Peter Coniglio back, so I have inserted him in the rankings at #2 at 132. When Nichols beat Bourjelli at the Bristol Eastern Tourney last weekend, it threw the 138 pound bracket into chaos. See how I have it ranked and feel free to disagree. I added Roark Ryan (220 pounder from East Lyme who placed 4th last year in M's). My apologies to the young man, I didn't check his credentials from last year as he switched class and Norwich changed coop teams so I didn't notice he was a class placer in the prior year. Lots of other changes, including some weight changes. Let me know what I missed.

285 is very close between all 6 guys. Lots of close matches. Could go any way at states. I was wondering, why would you move Clay over Coscia and Facey. I agree with top two, but then I think I'm going to go 3. Coscia (prev 5), 4. Facey (prev 3), 5. Clay (prev 6), 6. Highley (prev 4). I fully admit, it can go any way, but I don't see why you drop Facey from 3rd to 6th with a 1 point loss to a guy 1 place below him. Highley lost to the lower seeded wrestler and will drop more because of it. Facey also placed 4th last year at states, so that affords him some respect when evaluating two wrestlers who haven't yet wrestled this year (Clay/Facey). As I said, in reality it is really too close to call this year at 285. Need more results.

Khalil Bourjelli of New Milford @138 beat John Mairano of Simsbury at the Ridgefield Challenge. This will obviously move the freshman up to #1 at this weight. Joe Iamunno from North Haven beat Mason Lishness of Bristol Eastern at the CT Challenge to move up to 2nd at 120 pounds. Lots of other movements, but these are probably the two biggest. Look for the update late tonight (lots to work through still).

@Innocent Bystander As far as I know, I never include a forfeit result. If they didn't wrestle, it doesn't count. Now if they started the match and there was a medical forfeit, I then may or may not include it, but circumstances may dictate a move or not. The results from the Colter were difficult to parse as they listed so many forfeits, I tried to disregard them all, but an F (for fall) and For (for forfeit) are similar and I may have mixed them up. I hope not, but if I did, please let me know. Very unfortunate the weather shorted the best in-state mid-season tournament of the year. Oh well, still some good results. @160 Tischio of Xavier beat Sirois of Simsbury in a #1 vs. #2 matchup; @195, Ruiz from Xavier beat Thompson from Wethersfield in a #4 vs #1 matchup.
