I agree with it, and Danbury is the clear favorite at this time with 5 open pacers coming back along with 3 others who scored points. I think New Milford can climb into the top 5.

yea i agree as well. 138 had 3 on the podium at NE and 120 had 2. Both weights were stacked this weekend. Iammuno lost in quaters and that made it for a tougher path to place. Bourjelli making a run to the semis was huge for him.

Tough call here, but I'm going with Bourjelli for Freshman of Year. Found the podium at NE's being the difference for me

I tihnk Prather is a bit small at 120 this year and i'm not sold that he is the same guy he was as a 113 last year. O'dell had a 8-0 major over him this year at eastern states when prather made the cut to 116. Bock and Prather will make his way though a fairly light class M field, but i can't see him getting though deep into the opens this year.

@mophie I was feeling the same way about this post, but I’ll still give this dual a little breakdown. In regard to our Danbury predictions, (I had it at 8-6 agiast Warde) I guess we just haven’t been giving the Hatters enough credit? or were we to high on Simsbury and Warde? The first thing that comes to mind for me in this dual is that Warde was able to handle Trumbull with ease, and Trumbull picked up a win over Staples. With that being said, I still think Staples can keep it closer than Trumbull did. I tihnk Pina from Danbury should at a minimum be a HM at 120. I tend to lean in favor of a senior from Danbury with no CT losses this year over a freshman from New Fairfield and Killingly. Pina has key wins in beating Liam Knight and Branningan who both won mutltiple matches at Opens last year. The two sitting at HM have only key losses to their names at this time. seems like a easy change to me.

man another Danbury blow out. they seem to win all the swing matches in these big duals. Great performances by o’dell,Lucas,hawkins, Jones and Sean Donovan. 11 matches to 3. I said it earlier in the year, Danbury is a bit better up top then most thought. this team might be able to send 13 to opens

Final Score: Danbury 35 Simsbury 28 I have been back and forth on a final score due to the fact that I am not sure if either team is going to make adjustments in their line up, and I am just not sure what to expect at a few weights from 152-220. The one thing I do feel confident in is that 36pts is the number that’s going to win this dual. I think if Simsbury or Danbury can get to 36, it will be enough to lock up the win. I had 3 scenarios for team score that I landed on many times while crunching numbers. They were: 34-31 Simsbury 35-28 Danbury 39- 23 Danbury This dual was a tough one for me to gage because these two teams have had little to no common opponents. I’m going off the “eyeball” test for most of this dual and it leaves me with a lot of uncertainty. I am sure the wrestling at DHS will pure entertainment tomorrow! Another interesting thought that crossed my mind is the timing of this dual in relation to each teams mid-season schedule. Simsbury will be coming off of a long stretch of high level competition. Prior to the dual, their 4 week schedule heading in to it will have went through the Sam Cali, John Gorman, Xavier Tournament, Ridgefield Classic, and a dual with Southington. That’s a pretty tough stretch! On the other hand, The Hatters varsity line-up was off last weekend and has nothing scheduled this coming weekend. With the exception of a few duals that they were not really pushed in, they really haven’t been pushed since Eastern States on Jan. 10th. Shook is praised for his results as he should be, but the little things he does right (like building a schedule & peaking at the right time) go unnoticed sometimes. He uses his depth in the line-up to rest starters when available, limiting guys to not having to make weight cuts when it’s not needed to win a dual. I’m interested to see if the Hatters come into next week fully healthy and gunning, and if Simsbury comes in with a full head of steam. I expect them to win the Ridgefield Challenge and should be running on an all-time high confidence level.

I am uncertain on the Jack's health at this time but one thing to consider is that the dual was locked up for the Hatters by the time the 138 bout had to present to the mat. Danbury wrestled a 120lb backup at the weight, you have to imagine they had more flexibility then that if the dual was undecided at the time.

Yea unfortuanate for Simsbury, Bergin is up at Shenendehowa High school in upsate NY. I guess you could say the same with the Hatters as well who lost Kovacs to a Prep school transfer.

@maxschwartz077 Thanks for putting together a thread that was sure to stir the pot and get some conversation going. Your List is solid! Jojo ever Feilds at 132 is worth comparison, either way they would be a fit for the decade team. The result career comaparison leans heavy to Fields in my opinion, and the comparison at 132 in it self is very close, thats why i go Feilds here. 3x All American and 4x open placer and 4x class champ is tough to look past. No New England Titles to match Jojo, but then again Feilds had Mcgonagle in the Feild who was a top 20 recruit in the class of 2019. Feilds has wins over Mcgonagle (Lehigh) and Reece Whitcraft (OKSTATE) in his NHSCA runs, both these guys are set to be 4 year starters at the D1 level. I did not take the time to run through all of Jojo stats and results, they just werent as easy to find as Danbury has a very consistant results page on their website. @kcchiefs203 yes Wassink is solid and is a point scorer for Barlow as well. I should have remebered to add him to the list. 1-2 at Eastern states with losses to the 14 and 9 seed respectively. He also was 2-2 at opens last year so i anticipate to see him improve on that result. Eastern states is usually a good indication of your potential at New Englands, i dont see him on the podium in March.

Xavier has built a great schedule over the years... but I’m not a fan of this scoring/pool format. it doesn’t reflect your typical scoring metrics so it will be hard to access team results. On the championsip side i get it, but wrestle backs dont pan out true. As far as Barlow, IMO they will have 3 significant scorers, at 106,113 and 195. Outside of those weights they are not to solid. Barlow is the type of team who can place higher at the Open & NE than they will in a class tournament.

Is this going to be ran the traditioanl bracket style this year or pool play like years past? tough to get a feel for real team score in pool play.
