1 vs 3 and no one has mentioned this dual at all!? Am I the only one that thinks Warde has a shot at pulling off the upset, or at least keeping this dual close? I see it 8 matches to 6 for the Hatters, but Warde might be able to pick up more bonus wins. We could see a potential Ebert/Jack match but I have a feeling Warde my try to avoid that match up. 113 is intriguing to me, Coleman has had a solid season and may be able to keep it really close with O’dell, but I do think O’dell will be able to score on his leg attacks. Warde could legitimately win at 145-195. That would require Ebert to wrestle at 145, and for them to raddle off 6 straight wins which wouldnt be easy. A run like that paired with a win at 106 and we could see an upset in the making. Anyone have some final thoughts before the dual tonight?

We are just over a week out from the top two teams in the state going head to head. This is my most anticipated dual of the year, and the biggest instate threat Danbury has faced in quite some time. Before I get into a dual breakdown, I want to call out a few things that I’ve been thinking about that lead into the hype! My Dual breakdown will be posted on January 29th, Happy to hear your thoughts before I put my predictions out there! 1. Both Teams are Battle Tested: Danbury is known for their competitive schedule, I always tend to favor them in "swing" matches due to their schedule. But… Simsbury has put together a really solid schedule this year and their kids have been tested since early December. They have hit Lowell, Sam Cali (NJ), and won the John Gorman that hosted Timberlane, Cumberland and Bristol Eastern. 2. Does Either Team Adjust Their Starting Line Up?: I have been thinking a lot about this and at first I thought Simsbury would make some adjustments to try and “steal” a win. After crunching numbers and going through various dual line ups, I think both teams are best with their traditional line-ups. 3. Like Always, Bonus Points are going to Play a Major Factor: I anticipate bonus points at several weights, the question is… which team stays off their backs? More on this in the break down. 4. The Names You Are Least Familiar With Are Going to Make The Biggest Difference: These are the matches I consider to be the “swing” matches. 152,170,182,220 all come to mind here… bonus at these matches will be a HUGE deciding Factor. Competitive scheduling makes the biggest difference for this part of a team’s roster, kudos to Shook and Silva for not backing down to high level competition. 5. The G.O.A.T vs The Kid: Okay… Coach Silva isn’t a kid, but he is only been at the helm for a few seasons. In my opinion, he has done all the right things to create a winning culture in Simsbury A win in the Hatters Home gym would prove this true. Shook has been in this situation before, we know he will have the team ready to scrap, I am sure the each Hatter will know their “Job”. 6. Timberlane?: That’s right, Timberlane is going to be in town on February 1, as well as Nashoba, MA. One of these teams is going to have to wrestle each other after just finishing up a dual with the Owls. I’m not sure how much this plays into the dual result, but it cannot be left unsaid. 7: January 29th: Simsbury takes on Southington and Danbury has Trumbull 3 days before they square off. Both these duals will tell us more about the “uncertainties” of each team. This is the last result i'd like to see before sharing a prediction. I’ll post my breakdown on this thread next week, in the meantime… let me here your thoughts!!

My early season assesment from this weeks action - Not a ton of results to work off of just yet, but heres where i'm at. Enjoy and share some thoughts! 1. Danbury is the team to beat this year, but they are a bit more vonerable then many may have thought. They are solid from top to bottom, if you are going to beat them in a dual, you have to limit bonus point wins were they are strong. I think Warde/Danbury is a real thing this year and will be a very exciting dual. DHS is deep in the middle wieghts, allowing them to move their line up around to macth up better with other top teams. Shook and Co. are going to need to play their cards right to stay at the top. 2. Warde is the #2 team in the state, both dual and tournament. They have the studs to match Simsbury who i have sitting at #3 but more more depth in the line up. 3. Staples is a very solid dual team, they are getting maximum results from a young and green team. They are hands down a top 5 dual team, not quiet there in the tournament scene yet, but i would still have them in the top 8, just not ready to break into the top 5. 4. 5-10 teams in tournaments/duals is a crapshoot, Good luck ranking these spots as a i see it changing week to week. I just do not see any real depth on most teams, seems to me that these lower top 10 teams have a few studs, and a major fall of in talent after that. My top 5 Dual Team Currently: Danbury,Warde,Xavier, Simsbury, Staples My Top 5 Tournament Team Currenty: Danbury, Warde, Simsbury, Xavier, Southington

Any thoughts on who has a shot at placing or Winning it? I am not sure who is attending but I’ll throw a few names out there... I know I will miss many, I am just throwing out some names off the top of my head. 106: Freshman: This weight is crazy deep down in Virginia so I think it will be tough for our guys to make the Podium. I think it’s a long shot for O’Dell, Lindner, and Longo... but I wouldn't be surprised to see one sneak into a medal round Sophomore: Rapuano can make the podium here, the weight is still pretty competitive at the sophomore level. Brault wins a few matches but no placement IMO. Junior: This is where the weight starts to slim out but I’m not sure who we have from CT that is junior 106 that is completive enough here Senior: do they have a 106 senior weight or does it start at 113? Carron/Thomson could definitely win matches at 106 and place with the bracket being very small. 113: Freshman: Another crazy deep weight for freshman. Levesque would be competitive, but not an AA. Sophomore: Currier wins matches but I’d be surprised to see an AA. 100+ man bracket and I can’t see him winning 7+ matches to place Junior: Sutton is the only name I come up with here, not likely to AA Senior: Between Cyr and Longo, I think CT can get 1 AA here. 120: All grades: I think the best shot of an AA here would be Finn at sophomore age group. 126: Freshman: Ebert/Mariano could get on the podium here. I think Ebert has the better chance. As far as I can think back, Ebert has always found a way to make the podium at every event I have been to. Robbie Accomando of Trinity Pawling (from Newtown) has wins over Ebert in youth last year. If he goes he can get some wins too. Junior: Jack is a title contender here. Robbie Howard, #2 in the country has a win over jack this year but it was close. All other higher ranked wrestlers are seniors at this weight 132: Freshman: Kane is tough and can place at 132. Sophomore: Nichols and Pera have the best shot for CT at this weight, I can see them getting some W’s at sophomore nationals. Long shots for AA though 138: Mastroianni is a threat for a title at sophomore nationals. I think he should AA S. Johnson is legit, but so is 138 senior nationals… I think he finds himself deep in this tournament. 145: Sung/Kovacs can make the podium at junior nationals. They both have placed before, with Kovacs making a finals appearance 152: Hunter Adams is tough and I think he can do well at 52 juniors. Hope to see him win some matches here. 160: I think Bergin can find himself on the podium as a freshman. Outside of him, I’m not confident in any other age group 170: Not sure of anyone here at any age division 182: Licastri has a shot of AA at Junior Nationals. I think he is a legit threat to place here. Brackets won’t be as large as some of the lighter weights, 5/6 wins will get it done. 195: Jamikael Lytle has a shot at freshman nationals here with brackets usually being as large as R32. Kid is going to be great over the next few years Gjinaj is tough and usually keeps most matches close no matter who he wrestles. I see him winning some matches, but not AA caliber 220: All placers for CT open where Seniors/Juniors here. I don’t think any can AA Not sure of any Fresh/Sophomores that we have?? 285: Matt Weiner is an AA contender here at Freshman Nationals. Outside of him, I don’t think we have any shot.

First off, i want to say GREAT job to @abdoshaban for a solid season of rankings and website discussion. This board always makes the season a bit more fun and interesting. Now to the results... I reviewed the final OPEN rankings and one thing really stuck out to me, so i crunched some numbers. Almost 30% (25/84) of the Open place winners were either UR or HM, that's a pretty large percentage of the field. 20% of the placers were not ranked at all this year.. Amazing! Now i am not here to knock @abdoshaban rankings by any means... as i mentioned he did a great job, and had 70% of the placers ranked. What i would like to say is to all the wrestlers who don't find themselves ranked, BIG DEAL! Go out their and prove your worth like the 25 athletes did this year. Finally, for the people who will say "Rankings Don't Mean Anything" in many ways your right... but without them we would have as many anticipated match-ups or nearly as many discussions on this forum. Too bad the season is coming to an end and the website will be dormant for a while.. great 2018-2019 season

Who are our wrestlers with the best shot to win it? Can Danbury get another NE title with their 7? Timberlane is also brining 7 and so is Springfield central. I think those 3 teams battle for the tittle . i think the following CT wrestler have what it takes to win a championship Rapuano Jack Mastroianni S. Johnson Sung Licasti

I was curious to see how the current individual rankings compared to the top 10 coaches poll. I used a simple point system to compile some data for each team with ranked athletes. Below are the results for the top 10 teams based on individual rankings. This type of point system is very basic, it does not include bonus points or points generated by non-ranked wrestlers. I thought it would be cool to share and spark some good wrestling conversation. I think that the coaches poll does a great job ranking teams in a dual meet setting, and this point system ranks the teams more in line with Open Results. Enjoy and share your thoughts!
